HTC one mini with 4.3" and 720p screen dual-core krait is now official

It has been living in the rumor mill for a while now, but today HTC finally announced the One mini. It shares its design and many of its features with its bigger brother the One and sports a unibody aluminum body. That includes the HTC BoomSound technology, complete with dual frontal stereo speakers.
The HTC One mini is built around 4.3" display of 720p resolution resulting in a density of 341 pixels per inch. The screen itself is of the S-LCD2 variety and is protected from scratches by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Under the hood of the HTC One Mini there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1.4GHz dual-core Krait 300 CPU, Adreno 305 and 1GB of RAM. The internal memory is 16GB and sadly, there isn't a microSD card slot for expanding it.

The HTC One mini runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with HTC' Sense 5 UI icing on top. It gets treated to HTC's BlinkFeed and Beats Audio technology as well.
At the back of the HTC One mini resides the same 4MP UltraPixel camera found on the HTC One. The only difference between them is the lack of optical image stabilization on the One mini. You still get HTC's ImageChip 2 and a BSI sensor of 1/3" size, though.
The camera is capable of shooting 1080p videos with HDR and the LED flash next to it uses five levels of luminance (Smart Flash). HTC's Zoe is available as well, along with slow motion video recording with variable speed playback. The front-facing camera is 1.6MP and sports a BSI sensor that can shoot 720p videos.

Measuring 132 x 63.2 x 9.25 the HTC One mini weighs 122 grams. The battery that powers it is an 1,800mAh Li-polymer unit and according to the HTC estimates is good for up to 13.2 hours of 3G talk time and 692 hours of 3G stand-by.
Connectivity is covered with LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX enabled, Wi-FI a/b/g/n with DLNA and GPS + GLONASS. HTC has provided a range of sensors, too - there's a gyro, accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors. It seems that our petition has not gone unnoticed by the manufacturers after all.
The HTC One mini will be available in grey (Glacial Silver) and black (Stealth Black) for select markets starting from August for an estimated €449. Global rollout and availability will begin from September.
Be sure to check out our HTC One mini preview, where we examine the smartphone in more detail.

HTC Butterfly update brings Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5

The HTC Butterfly is catching up to its successors – the One and the Butterfly S – with an Android 4.2.2 update that's currently rolling out in Taiwan. The update brings Sense 5 with BlinkFeed and Video highlights as well as better AE/AF performance (but other Sense 5 features will remain exclusive to the One).
The update (an early version of which leaked last month) is in two parts – first a small package of just over a megabyte (which makes sure part 2 installs smoothly), then the big 551MB package.

HTC has not announced an official schedule for the other Butterfly units out there, including the HTC DROID DNA for Verizon, but with the HTC One it didn’t take long from the initial release to worldwide rollout.

HTC One Google Edition spotted at Bluetooth SIG with Android 4.3

Traces of an HTC One Google Play Store edition running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean have been found over at the Bluetooth SIG. Carrying the model number PNG71xx_Android_4.3_G, the smartphone has undergone the certification process starting June 18 and has got the all clear on July 5.
The reason for the re-certification of the HTC One is that Android 4.3 supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE. As a result, the Google Play Store versions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 4.3 will be able to connect to a myriad of accessories supporting the new low power standard.
Android 4.3 is still expected to be carrying the Jelly Bean name and as we found out in our testing of the Samsung Galaxy S4 leaked ROM, there are few changes worth writing home about. Google is yet to officially announced the next version of Android, but judging by the more and more intensive leaks, it can't be far away now.
We urge you to check out the Google Play Store edition HTC One

HTC Butterfly S goes on sale in some stores in the US, Taiwan

The HTC Butterfly S is HTC's second flagship in a short period of time and it's already on sale. Those early prices are not cheap but only a few stores even offer it officially.
One we found is Overseas Electronics – the Butterfly S is available in Black, Grey, White and Red and is priced $850 (US only shipping).
Another store, Negri Electronics, has put it up on pre-order for $770, but unfortunately there's no indication of when it will actually ship.
Ebay, of course, also has a few offers for the Butterfly S but they are even pricier – one from Taiwan is priced at $900.
Speaking of Taiwan, you can find it for about $765 there (NT$ 22,900) in at least three stores.
The HTC Butterfly S packs a 5" 1080p screen, BoomSound speakers (two on the front), Android 4.2 with Sense 5 and Blinkfeed, Snapdragon 600 chipset (quad-core Krait 300 at 1.9GHz, 2GB RAM, Adreno 320 GPU), UltraPixel camera (no OIS) and Zoe, plus a microSD card slot and a massive 3,200mAh battery.

Furthermore, the Home key can now launch the options menu via a long press. Google Now can be accessed by swiping up from the Home button. BlinkFeed has been tweaked to support Instagram, and HTC Zoe has also been enhanced alongside with the camera's AF/AE performance.
There's a new lockscreen style too. Widgets can also be added to the lockscreen after the update.

HTC posts preliminary Q2 report, revenue and profits down

HTC released preliminary financial reports for the month of June and the whole second quarter. Those are incomplete, unaudited numbers, the full report will come later on, but this is enough to let us know what to expect.
Q2 of this year seemed to be going well for HTC with growth in revenue and nearly matching last year's performance in May. June proved to be a disappointment though – revenue dropped compared to May and was down 26.4% compared to June last year
Total revenue for Q2 which ends in June was $2.36 billion, with earnings per share of $0.05, and operating profit of $34.9 million and $41.6 million net income. This is in line with the $2.3 billion in revenue forecast for Q2, but analysts were expecting $67.2 million in net profits.
The numbers for Q1 this year were $1.42 billion revenue and $2.8 million net income, for Q2 last year it was $4.1 billion revenue and $246.3 million in net income.

New HTC One mini photos leak, Desire 200 live shots surface too

HTC One mini has been around for quite some time even though it's not officially announced yet. The smaller sibling of the One flagship features a 4.3" 720p display and a dual-core Snapdragon chipset.
We already saw live pictures of the HTC One mini twice. We also got an official render and a few confirmations of its existence from different organizations.
Today we got another portion of live photos. They reveal no additional details to those we already knew.HTC One mini is expected to pack 2GB of RAM, a 4MP UltraPixel camera, 16GB internal storage and Beats Audio enhancement. Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5.0 UI should tick inside.
The recently announced HTC Desire 200 also got the hands-on treatment. It looks like a miniature version of the One flagship but is far less capable. It runs on a single-core 1GHz processor and has 512MB of RAM. Because of the dated hardware the Desire 200 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich skinned with the older HTC Sense UI 4.0. You should not expect Jelly Bean for the Desire 200.

HTC Desire 200
HTC Desire 200 also comes with a 5MP snapper on its back. Here are some camera samples you can check out.

HTC France: No Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or Sense 5 for One S

Bad news, HTC One S users. Despite HTC never mentioning anything about it after the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, it's now official the smartphone will stuck on this version of the OS forever.
Unfortunately, HTC is breaking its promise of delivering the Sense 5 UI to the mid-range smartphone.
HTC France has responded to a question from Facebook user that the HTC One S won't be getting any new Android and Sense UI updates. Currently the HTC One S is running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 4+ user interface.
This means that the HTC One S will be left with just one major Android update in its lifecycle, which isn't too bad for a mid-range device, but certainly disappointing considering the capable hardware inside. We suspect the financial troubles that HTC is experiencing lately have contributed to this.
There is an outside chance that this is just a regional thing and other HTC One S units might get the Sense 5 update after all, but we wouldn't count on it

HTC One Mini gets caught posing for the camera once again

The HTC One Mini has made yet another appearance in front of the camera. This time around, the upcoming mid-range offering got caught next to its bigger brother in a matching color.
The fresh batch of rumored specs for the HTC One Mini fall right in line with previous reports. The upcoming smartphone is said to feature a 4.3" display (likely a 720p unit), and a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU (a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 is widely expected). The camera is tipped to be capable of capturing Zoe share and 1080p videos, though no further details were given this time around. The OS on the leaked device is Sense-d Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The HTC One Mini will feature the gorgeous aluminum body of its flagship sibling. The Mini however will have a plastic ring around it, as seen in the image above, and no IR remote.
The HTC One Mini is expected to go official at some point in Q3 this year. Given how little is left to our imagination this far, we doubt it will be a long wait.

1.2 million HTC Ones were sold in May, twice more than April

According to Citigroup Global Markets Inc analyst Kevin Chang HTC may have sold 1.2 million HTC Oneunits in May, which is a 100% increase compared to April.
That would mean that with the addition of the first week of June around 2 million HTC Ones were sold, which fits-in nicely with the revenue increase HTC posted in May but drastically contradicts previous reports that HTC has sold 5 million One units. However until we see a complete breakdown of the numbers by HTC itself we cannot say for sure.Analysts expect the momentum to continue throughout this month and, barring any major announcements in the Summer as well..

HTC One mini hands on photos leak, compare it to the One

The early HTC One mini rumors were mostly hearsay, but now we have something more solid. Estonian site Forte got hold of the actual device and took a few photos of it and its big namesake.
The HTC One mini shares many of the great features of the big HTC One – an attractive aluminum body, 4MP UltraPixel camera, stereo speakers on the front and Beats audio.
The screen is smaller, obviously, it's 4.3" in diagonal and has 720p resolution (342ppi pixel density). The processor was also stepped down to a dual-core (most likely a Snapdragon chipset), but the RAM remains at 2GB. The internal storage got the cut though, it's 16GB.

HTC One mini next to the big HTC One
The HTC One mini reportedly runs Android 4.2.2, though that's not 100% certain (the version info was hidden somehow). Still, it's going to be stiff competition to the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.
The mini seems to be about as wide as the regular One, but it is shorter. Surprisingly, it appears thinner (mini versions are usually thicker), but this could be due to the camera angle.
According to Forte the HTC One mini will launch in August at the earliest and be priced around €400.
