Samsung Galaxy S4 to be launched on April 25 for less than Rs 40,000

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is not too far from hitting stores in India. Samsung's flagship is likely to be launched in India on April 25 and will be available in stores from April 27.

The source also said the phone could be available for under Rs 40,000, while its MRP will be around Rs 42,000. At that price, the S4 would be in direct competition with the HTC One, which was launched recently for Rs 42,900, thus levelling the field for Samsung and HTC. And if the Galaxy S4 does launch at an MOP of less than Rs 40,000, it could also eat into the sales of theSony Xperia Z, which is currently retailing for Rs 37,900 and is going for much less in the grey market.

Announced on March 14 at a swanky function in New York, the Galaxy S4 brings ultra-modern hardware, paired with some key improvements and changes in the TouchWiz software experience.According to our sources in the grey market, the phone could come as soon as April 22nd to India and as is usual with high-end phones, it will be sold for a premium when it arrives. For those early birds wanting to jump on the S4 bandwagon, the phone will cost Rs 60,000 or possibly more, based on information we have received from our market sources.

Keeping up with the competition, the Galaxy S4 also brings a 5-inch Full-HD display. The Super AMOLED display has deep blacks and saturated colours, but Samsung has packaged a colour calibration software to fine-tune it.

The phone has 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 64GB. 32GB and 64GB versions are also expected to launch soon. All three models have 2GB RAM.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 ships with the latest version of Android, i.e. 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, butSamsung’s customisations and features are particularly interesting. For example, the S4 can pause and resume videos based on whether the user is looking at the display. Similarly, a motion detector helps cycle through the image gallery or open tabs in the browser with just a flick of the hand. Hold a finger over an email in the inbox or a photo in the gallery and you get a thumbnail preview of the item thanks to a Galaxy Note 2-like Air View feature.

The primary camera on the Galaxy S4 is a 13-megapixel autofocus unit. There’s an LED flash on the back and Samsung claims the camera has zero shutter lag. On the front is a 2-megapixel camera that also is capable of full HD video recording. Besides clicking regular pictures, the S4’s camera allows for a dual-shooting mode with frames; a Sound and Shot feature that records a few seconds of audio before an image and combines them both; and Drama Shot, which helps create dramatic pictures of your subject in motion.
